The LEAD program runs September through June. There are currently 2 LEADership Groups, with 17 teens in each group. We will be starting a third LEADership Group, which will be bilingual Spanish/English on Wednesday nights in the fall of 2006.

The program consists of a 2 hour LEADership Group meeting, one monthly outdoor trip, and one monthly community service day.

Teens must be low-income to enroll in LEAD. We define low-income broadly. Qualifying criteria include (but are not limited to): qualifing for free or reduced lunch, public, assisted or section 8 housing, Oregon Trail card, Oregon Health Plan, Social Security Benefits, currently homeless. If you have questions about qualification, please contact the LEAD office.

To enroll a teen or to become a LEAD teen either email us at info@leadteen.com or call our office at (541) 342-TEEN.

Teens who enroll in LEAD must be willing to follow 3 commitments --

  1. stay in school and graduate (this inclues home schooling)
  2. obey the law and develop
  3. follow a life assignment. We do acknowledge exceptions to the "obey the law"commitment. Exceptions include: undocumented immigrant status, civil disobedience in political protest and homeless families and teens needing to camp and sleep outside. Teens also must commit to coming to the LEADership Group meetings and monthly trips and community service project.

A teen is ineligible to join LEAD if they have a criminal history of a sex offense or serious violent crime.
